Not everyone is as blessed as I am. I truly have some of the best friends in the world. Last week I had the great pleasure of hosting some of my favorite friends from college in Korea. I had a wonderful time blending old friends with new and really giving my USA buddies a good taste of Korea. I had a number of Korean friends help me plan the visit for my friends and we ended up having a ball. Over the week my USA…Continue Reading “The kids do Korea!”

Jinju Namgang Yudeung (Lantern) Festival (진주 남강유등축제)

Categories Korea, Traveling in Korea, Video Updates

I shot this video last October but just now found the clips to put it together. Anyway, better late than never! The Jinju Lantern Festival takes place every fall in Korea and is a must see for anyone who can get over to it. See a little bit more information on the festival below: Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival originates from the lantern lighting custom used during the Jinjuseong Fortress Battle of the Imjinwaeran War (Japanese invasion, 1592) as a military strategy to prevent Japanese troops…Continue Reading “Jinju Namgang Yudeung (Lantern) Festival (진주 남강유등축제)”

Had a great time visiting Hwaeomsa the other day with a family that I have become very close with. Their little girl is ridiculously adorable. Hwaeomsa (Sino-Korean: hwa-eom-sa 華嚴寺, literally “Flower Garland Temple”) is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It is located on the slopes of Jiri-san, in Masan-myeon, Gurye County, in the province of Jeollanam-do, South Korea. It was constructed under the Silla dynasty in 544, burned down during the Seven Year War in the 1590s, and rebuilt thereafter.

비진도 (Bijin Island Trip)

Categories Korea, Traveling in Korea, Video Updates

I took a trip over to 비진도 (Bijin Island) this past weekend with a group of great people from an English study group that I participate in every Friday night and we had a great time. I highly recommend this island for anyone looking to escape some of the bigger crowds on the beaches in Korea. 비진도 (Bijin Island) is truly a unique and wonderful experience.

비진도 (Bijin Island)….better than the rest

Categories Korea, Traveling in Korea

Last weekend I visited yet another place in Korea that I absolutely fell in love with.  비진도 (Bijin Island) has now climbed to the top of my list for hidden gems in Korea, and I’ll give you three reasons why you should consider visiting this place if you are travelling in Korea. 1.) Uniquely picturesque: 비진도 (Bijin Island) is located in the southwest sea of Korea, just a 40 minute ferry ride away from a bigger city called Tongyeong.  Bijin Island is basically a small…Continue Reading “비진도 (Bijin Island)….better than the rest”

Took a trip over to Busan last weekend with one of my best buddies from Masan and had the opportunity to meet up with one of my friends from the states who currently lives in Seoul.  We spent some time at Haeundae Beach and then made it over to another nearby hangout place called, Gwangalli.  Had a great time experiencing a little bit of summer culture in Busan.

Before I came to Korea, I knew very little about this country.  As it stands, I am no expert on “the land of the morning calm,” but I know a whole lot more about South Korea than I did before.  I often think to myself that Korea gets heavily overlooked as a tourist destination.  I highly recommend Korea as a travel spot.  Korea is far more than a land of English teachers and in this post I will highlight four reasons why you should consider…Continue Reading “The great unknown…four reasons to visit Korea!”

I’ll admit, I haven’t updated this thing nearly enough over the past couple months and I am motivated to get back to providing more exciting updates on my life abroad.  I still really enjoy blogging but it seems as more and more time goes by, I run out of things to write up.  I have become extremely accustomed to living in Korea, and while that is cool for a number of reasons, it is not conducive to providing me with cool things to put on…Continue Reading “A trip to Chang-dong”

Tongyeong 통영

Categories Korea, Traveling in Korea, Video Updates

Took a little trip to neighboring city, Tongyeong (통영) the other day. Had a really great time with my big brother around these parts, Kim Kang. We took a gondola trip that allowed us to catch a good view of Hallyeo Marine National Park and then headed over to Dongpirang Village, which is a village in Tongyeong full of awesome wall art.

Last Saturday night my family arrived in Korea to visit me for a week.  My friend Sung Yoon and I picked up my mother, father, and sister at the Gimhae Airport at approximately 8:00PM and headed straight to Haeundae Beach afterwards to check-in at a hotel.  Not surprisingly, everyone called it early and headed to bed around 11:00PM.  On Sunday we pretty much just walked around Busan for the day and got ready for our flight to Jeju Island scheduled for 5:00PM on Sunday evening….Continue Reading “Jeju Island (plus my family’s trip to Korea!)”
